OBJECTIVE / SOLUTION

Develop affordable manufacturing solutions for complex missile seeker components that will shape the missile industry towards cost effective all weather seekers. The Manufacturing Technology for Complex Missile Seekers project will focus on implementing more efficient production methods and procedures to reduce labor costs associated with multi-mode seekers. Specific areas of study will include cost, performance, interfaces, production methods, and materials. Program focus will be the affordable manufacture of multi-mode seekers using novel manufacturing methods and new imaging technologies. Once manufacturing technologies for multimode seekers have been tested and demonstrated, the results will be transitioned to the Joint Attack Munition Systems (JAMS) project office for implementation into the Joint Air-to- Ground Missile (JAGM).

Achievements

• Worked with the JAMS project office to ensure transition and implementation plans synchronized with the JAGM schedule
• Began development of affordable manufacturing solutions for complex missile seeker components that will shape the missile industry towards cost effective all weather seekers

Benefits

• Affordable multi-mode seekers
• Reduced manufacturing cost for JAGM seekers (50% cost reduction goal)
• Understanding of seeker performance/cost tradeoffs
• Potential interface solutions for seeker heads

Transition and Weapon Systems / Secondary Items Impacted

• The Manufacturing Technology for Complex Missile Seekers project will transition to the JAMS project office at the end of FY19 and will be implemented on the JAGM missile.
